A direct flight to US means you take on 1 plane from Manila and you disembark in the US. A transfer flight means you take 2 planes. You disembark in the stopover airport like in Hawaii to board another plane for the US mainland. This is just an example. Now this question, which is cheaper? The transfer flight yields about 20% cheaper in cost but it is inconvenient with the waiting time in the airport.
